If you arrive early on the 22nd...
You might walk to Sather Tower, fondly referred to as the Campanile, take the elevator up to see the view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. The tower rises to a height of 317 feet. Located in the geographic center of campus, the Campanile is the symbolic heart and enduring symbol of Cal. Carillon concerts can be heard several times a day. An elevator ride to the observation platform at the 200-foot level provides visitors with a spectacular view of the campus and the entire Bay Area.
The Campanile is open Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost of an elevator ride is $2 general admission (over 18). Note: There are 38 stairs from the top of the elevator to the observation platform, which is therefore not wheelchair accessible.
